This is a really cool looking ad that I found in a book that I took out of the library. The book, "All American Ads", is 2" wide and features a variety of ads from the 1950's. It was actually hard to choose a specific picture to use for this assignment. What made this one so special is the use of color. I found the blue water to be calming and the idea of sailboats further relaxing.
It is obvious what the focal point is- the Sheraton Hotel.
Emphasis through central focal point- it is in the middle and it is
proportionally skewed to look bigger than anything else in the picture.
Emphasis through contrast- a bright yellow and black building
placed upon the blue Lake Michigan. And, again, the building's disproportionate size is contrasting to the other pieces of the composition. actually, there is contrast in scale, shape, and color displayed. The lines from this building are very straight and distinct. Everything else in this picture is more blurred or rounded in shape.
I had another ad from this book but, for some reason blogger didn't like it an kept uploading it as a tile. Maybe I'll put it on my site.
Thanks for reading.
Harriet
